Business Protection

Business Protection that works as hard as you do

Running a business comes with enough risks. Protecting it shouldn’t.

Whether you’re a director, leading a growing team, working with a business partner, or flying solo, the right protection can help make sure everything you’ve worked hard to build is better prepared for the unexpected.

From protecting the people your business relies on to helping provide financial security if illness, injury or worse affects you or a key member of your team, we’ll help you find cover that fits the way your business works.

At Kin Protect, we keep things simple. We’ll take the time to understand you, your business and what matters most, then help you put the right protection in place—so you can focus on running your business with confidence, whatever comes your way.

Relevant Life

What is it?

Life Cover paid for by your business. A personal Life Policy funded by your limited company. If you die, a lump sum is paid directly to your loved ones, helping provide financial security when they need it most.

Who’s it for?

Directors and employees. Ideal for company directors and salaried employees who want to protect their families while making the most of their business structure. It’s not designed for sole traders.

What does it cover?

Financial protection when you die. The policy can pay out a tax-free lump sum if you die, or if you’re diagnosed with a terminal illness, helping your loved ones manage bills, commitments and everyday living costs.

Who pays?

Your limited company. Your business pays the premiums rather than you personally. This can make the cover more tax-efficient, with premiums potentially treated as a business expense, subject to the usual conditions.

Is it tax-efficient?

A potentially tax-smart way to fund Life Cover. Your business may be able to offset the premiums against Corporation Tax, and in many cases the premiums aren’t treated as a Benefit in Kind.

How much does it cost?

Potentially more cost-effective than paying personally. You get the reassurance of personal Life Cover, while the premiums are paid through your business. For higher earners, this can make it an especially attractive way to protect your family.

Key Person Cover

What is it?

Key Person Life & Critical Illness Cover. Key Person Insurance protects your business financially if an essential employee dies or is diagnosed with a serious illness.

Who is a Key Person?

It’s not just about directors. A Key Person could be anyone who plays a crucial role in your business — from top-performing salespeople and founders to highly skilled specialists whose absence would have a major impact.

Why does it matter?

Protecting your business and cashflow. Losing someone vital to your business can affect revenue, operations and future plans. Key Person Insurance can provide a financial cushion while you adapt and recover.

What’s included?

Cover built around your business. Choose Life Cover, Critical Illness Cover, or a combination of both, depending on who you need to protect and what works for your budget.

Who receives the payout?

Your business. Unlike personal Life Cover, the policy is designed to pay the business, giving you funds to help manage the financial impact of losing a Key Person.

Tax & setup

Designed with your business in mind. Key Person Cover may qualify as a tax-deductible business expense, depending on the policy and circumstances. We’ll help you get the right structure in place.

Income Protection

Income Protection, built for business owners

What is it?

Protecting your monthly income. A policy designed to pay you a regular monthly income if illness or injury prevents you from working, helping you continue to receive a salary while you recover.

Who’s it for?

Company directors and senior executives. Designed for limited company directors who want to protect their income through their business, rather than funding cover personally.

Why does it matter?

Protecting you from a double financial hit. If you’re unable to work, your business can lose your contribution while your personal income is also affected. Income Protection helps replace your salary, giving you greater financial security.

Who pays?

Your business does. The premiums are paid by your company rather than from your personal income and may qualify as a business expense, depending on the policy and how it’s set up.

What’s included?

Flexible cover to suit you. The policy can provide a monthly income after an agreed waiting period, typically continuing until you’re able to return to work or reach the end of the policy term. You choose the level of cover and waiting period that works for you.

Is it tax-efficient?

Potentially, yes. Executive Income Protection premiums can often be treated as a tax-deductible business expense, while any benefits received are generally paid as taxable salary — providing a potentially tax-efficient way to protect your income.

Critical Illness

Critical Illness Cover, built for businesses

What is it?

Financial protection against serious illness. A policy that can pay a lump sum if a key person, shareholder or employee is diagnosed with a covered critical illness, such as cancer, a heart attack or stroke.

Who’s it for?

Business owners, key employees and teams. Suitable for anyone whose illness could have a significant financial impact on the business, from essential employees and directors to shareholders and wider staff groups.

Why does it matter?

Helping protect business continuity. The serious illness of someone important to your business can disrupt operations, delay projects and create uncertainty for shareholders or investors. A payout can provide valuable financial breathing space while you plan your next steps.

Key Person use

Helping keep the business moving. A payout can help cover lost income, recruitment or temporary staff costs and other expenses while a key employee takes time to recover.

Shareholder use

Helping protect ownership and control. If a shareholder becomes seriously ill, the policy can provide funds to help facilitate the purchase of their shares, helping avoid unwanted ownership changes or potential disputes.

Group use

Supporting your wider team. Group Critical Illness Cover can be offered as an employee benefit, providing staff with a lump-sum payment if they’re diagnosed with a covered serious illness — helping support their financial wellbeing and adding value to your benefits package.

Shareholder Protection

A safety net for the business

What is it?

Share Buyback Insurance. A Life or Critical Illness Policy designed to provide the funds needed to buy back a shareholder’s shares if they die or become seriously ill — helping keep ownership within the existing business.

Who’s it for?

Business owners and shareholders. Particularly useful for limited companies with multiple shareholders, whether you’re co-founders, business partners or investor-directors. It can help make difficult situations more straightforward and reduce the risk of future disputes.

Why does it matter?

Protecting ownership and control. If a shareholder dies or suffers a critical illness, their shares could pass to someone outside the business. Without the right plan in place, this could affect who controls the company.

Who pays?

The business or the shareholders. Depending on how the arrangement is structured, premiums can be paid by the company or individual shareholders. The cover is often set up alongside a cross-option agreement.

What does it cover?

Death or critical illness. If a shareholder dies or is diagnosed with a covered critical illness, the policy can provide a lump sum to help the company or remaining shareholders purchase their shares.

Is it tax-efficient?

Potentially, when structured correctly. The tax treatment depends on the specific arrangement and circumstances, so getting the right advice at the outset is important to make sure the policy is set up appropriately.
